Classroom Vision and Teaching Philosophy
I am working at an excellent educational institution as a social science teacher. The school located in Mannamkuzhi which a local place in Kasaragod district, Kerala. It is a private and Kerala government-recognized school. LKG to 10th classes is there in the school. The school run by an organization called ‘Right Path” the organization works for charity and education. I teach from 4th class to 10th class. They are strong managerial leadership to run the school. There are 15th classrooms. Some classes are divided into grades. Total of 500 students studies in the school. 300 boys and 200 girls. Most of the students are from the Muslim community which inhabits the school. I have responsibility for controlling the students club activities.
It low fee private school. But there are opportunities for children who are in a low background family. According to RTE, the school will provide 25 percent of seats to children who are staying beside the school and can not go to the school because of their several programs. The students from the high advantaged and middle-level family. Most of the parents are a businessman and some of them are work for a daily wage. There are specialized teachers for each and every subject. Well-organized infrastructures are there for the school. The building includes several rooms for different purposes. The well-furniture staffroom, there is the library which includes 20000 books. Meet hall, canteen which has the facility to sit all children in a time. Smart room, playground, namaz, and meditation room.
There are 16 teachers. Teachers would be paid on average Indian salaries. The school builds upon special themes that providing fearless opportunities to learn. Acknowledging the students are the main important thing in this school. The schools’ rules are strictly considering maintain equality among the students. Any discrimination or violence from the students and teachers is not allowed here.
Aims of education
“Education is a process for training of hand, head, and heart, it is all around the drawing the best in child’s to man’s body, mind and soul” Mahathma Gandhi The educational institutions should have clear aims because it will help to decide where will the reach in the long educating process. The education aims to have deep knowledge in the children and to make the ability to understand and analyze, criticize our surroundings, state, and the world at large. Through educating the society aims to build a generation and society who understand and respect others, and value the institutional values. A society that works to build a better democratic country. Children would have the ability to a commitment with society, that only possible to live democratically in this democratic country. Curriculum and schools are important media to work for this aim.
The aim of social science is to study society.
This study includes geography, history, political life studies. Through these studies, aims to build students who learn to respect each other, students who have the sensibility of liberty, equality, dignity, freedom, trust. And aims to build the capacity to critical thinking and understand the force and threaten coming from society. The studies of all elements of social studies would help children to deep understandings social controversies.
Lesson plan
The lesson made for the chapter “EQUALITY IN INDIAN DEMOCRACY” from the grade 7 NCERT textbook. The chapter says about the inequality which exists in our country and other foreign countries. And it also describes what kind of inequalities are there in society. The examples and stories include in the lesson show us how the caste system practiced in the past of India.
The main elements of the chapter are describing the schemes and program provided by the government to solve the issue of the inequality which exist in India. And chapter explaining article 15 which allowing equal opportunities for all Indians under the constitution.
The videos, activities, and questions which I prepared for the lesson plan are emphasized children reflect and affect how people discriminating regarding their religion, caste, and race. I have created many opportunities for children to participate in deep learning and learning through discussions. The physical environment of your classroom, The classroom facilitated to sit 30 children comfortably in the school. The wall would be attached to pictures and arts related to my subject social science. The maps are there on the wall. Imagine setting up the desks and benches as I have seen in the Azim Premji school. The facility to sit as a face-to-face. The round system of tabling. It will be more helpful to engage with peers in deep learning. There would be no special sitting places for teachers because teachers have to stand and take classes.
Ther is a wide blackboard. And will arrange the facility to use PPD. I will arrange a club in the class to collect some works and promote extra curriculum activities connected to the subjects. There are wide tables for teachers to keep their things.
About children in the classroom
The autonomy gives by the authority will use for the teaching method. Students don’t want to sit and listen to me with fear. I don’t want them to listen to my words because I will beat them if they don’t listen to me. Discipline is necessary for my class. But I will train them when they need to be disciplined. Students want to actively participate in my class. They can ask a question at any time freely without any hesitation or fear. Students get rewards like appreciating words for active participation in the activities and while teaching the lesson. I don’t expect every child should be strong-minded and high IQ level students but, they should more active and energetic in the class. I want them to be more class with me. I expect every child feel an openness to reach me and ask what they have in their mind. If they are open-minded children they can come any time to me and I can contribute anything to them. Even if they are facing any learning challenges I can make some help or support. But if they are not opened to share their concern about their difficulties that would be so difficult to reach them personally.
Students need to be interested in learning. Everyone should talk and present anything with high-level confidence. Students need a deep connection with each other. They would make an environment most of the time involving peer learning rather than learning alone. Student needs to help other students especially those who are facing difficulties in the learning, special consideration to the disabled students if they have in my class. Not any violence is allowed in the class, therefore unity among the children is very important.
They would behave to the girls with respect and dignity. Not any violence or discrimination based on gender or religion. They need to participate in the program conducted by the school. They need to actively participate in club activities. The students who have skills in different fields need to present in my class when I will create them opportunities for it. The student wants to say that the Adnan teacher best teacher in my school life, the simple class, kindness and most qualified one.
why do I teach the way I teach?
I mostly tried to take attractions of all children to listen to my words. I used reflective and affective methods to think about one topic and make affection to their learnings. Always I starting with questions to involve all children in my class. Traying to give them a clear understanding of the contents. While I am planing the lesson plan I would accept three models for teaching, the lecture and discussion model which some important things which described in the textbook, if I can’t explain it with activities or another attractive method I will use lecture and discussion methods. Another one is the inquiry model. Starting with the question when discribing the lessons. And for some topic, I will use case study methods which it will more benefits to students. In the lesson plan which I made is used these three methods. Students get more involved in this method.
Most of the teachers who spoke with us were said that they are all connecting their lessons to the experiences of the students, especially Riya explained some incidents based on this. I will also use this in my teaching. I will connect children’s experiences to the lesson. That will be more benefits to students to understand the lesson clearly. When I doing the activities.
The main challenger which I face while teaching was to understand the children are they understand or not. While I teaching some children will interact and some will not. If they interact with us we can understand that they have to get scenes from the class. But if they don’t ask anything of me or don’t give responses in my classes I can’t understand their status. That will be difficult for me. The videos and PPT presentation will be in my classes to get the interest and attractions of the children. Another difficulty in my class that whenever I describe the issues which have in the society that would so difficult for some children to grasp that things like whenever I describing the story of the Dalit or Muslim who oppressed by others that will be difficult for children to control their sadness. Because small children suddenly feel sad.
Another challenge that I face while I teach that, to focus on every different abled child in a time. If I continue the classes without considered all learnings that will be difficult for those children who have not to understand. If I repeat the lesson many times for those who have not to understand the children who understand get bor and get out from listening to the classroom.
